SUMMARY:FANGA ALAFIA Dance Drum Song ~ Body Mind Soul ~ In Rhythm All One
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the return of spring\, this will be a vibrant dance and drum workshop with Zoë Solomons\, Thomas Christen and MuSumBa Drummers.\n\n\nOVERVIEW: \n“Three divine beings took our worries away; they were Drum\, Dance and Song.”(Amos Tutuola\, Nigerian author) Originally from Liberia\, FANGA is a rhythm of blessing\, connection\, celebration and joy. ALAFIA in the Yoruba language means peace or goodwill. FANGA ALAFIA has been made popular worldwide by the late Nigerian master drummer Babatunde Olatunji. \nWORKSHOP: \nWorkshops are Open Level from Beginner to Experienced. \nDANCE: We will work with the rhythmic capacity of the whole body. Breaking down how each movement connects and contributes in rhythm. Reverently practicing the Fanga dance from West-Africa to inform our physicality in dialogue with the drum. \nNB: We advise loose clothing\, colourful wraps and scarves\, barefoot or soft footwear. \nDRUM: We will embody the Fanga rhythm with voice and simple movement; experiencing pulse\, cycle\, beat and off-beat. Expressing this with the drum\, we explore how the different drum sounds produce a poly-rhythmic melody for the Fanga dance. \nNB: Please\, bring your own drum\, or reserve one of ours when booking. \nBIOGRAPHIES: \nZoe has been studying dances from the African diaspora for 20 years. She combines her knowledge from a professional contemporary dance career with 15 years teaching embodied movement in service of a deep\, caring and playful workshop experience. \nThomas has been a student\, teacher and performer of West-African music internationally for over 40 years. He is a multi-instrumentalist\, composer and educator with a lifelong passion pursuing rhythm as a natural path to creativity\, harmony and balance.

SUMMARY:Seamas Carey Singing Workshop FOREST ROW\, EAST SUSSEX
DESCRIPTION:Joyous & anarchic singing workshop for any age\, ability or gender\n\n\nSeamas Carey\, the internationally award-winning performer\, composer\, multi-instrumentalist and choir leader spent six years running Cornwall’s first alternative male voice choir (Men Are Singing). He’s sung all over the world with his solo work\, various theatre companies and The Spooky Men’s Chorale. \nHis collective singing workshops are delivered in an informal\, infectious and accessible style that gets the most out of people. Whether you’ve sung before or it’s your first time\, there’s something for everyone as Seamas uses ear-worm rounds\, fun warm ups and surprising song covers – to encourage people to connect with their bodies\, the other people around them and take themselves less seriously. \n \nThe workshop will last two hours\, with a short break in the middle.

Feel free to bring your little ones along. We foster a family-friendly environment where kids are part of the joy. \n\n\n\nSupportive Atmosphere: Nervous about singing in a group or worried you’re not ‘good enough’? Don’t be. Our main goal is to uplift each other and find joy in the process\, not to perform perfectly. \n\n\n\nRefreshment Break: We always make time for a little break\, allowing you to relax\, chat with fellow mamas\, and enjoy some refreshments. \n\n\n\nBenefits\n\n\n\nInclusive Environment: Being part of a group where everyone is welcome\, regardless of singing ability or experience\, boosts confidence and self-worth. \n\n\n\nEmotional Boost: Singing has been shown to release ‘happy hormones’\, acting as a natural mood enhancer. \n\n\n\nStress Reduction: The act of singing\, especially in a group\, can help soothe the nervous system and decrease levels of stress. \n\n\n\nEnhanced Connection: It’s not just about the songs. It’s about forging meaningful connections with fellow mamas\, providing a sense of community and belonging. \n\n\n\nCognitive Stimulation: Learning new songs and harmonies stimulates cognitive functions\, keeping the mind sharp and engaged. \n\n\n\nPhysical Well-being: Singing involves deep breathing and good posture\, which can help in reducing muscle tension and promoting physical well-being.
